I’m a writer, editor, photographer and competitive tennis player who has set a goal of meeting people through Melbourne's community tennis scene, playing a match with each of them, talking about what brought them to the game, and creating a portrait of them.
This is a story of a community who are connected and woven together by an invisible thread, and how this game has shaped our lives.
Every person who steps onto a court has a story to tell that led them to tennis, back to tennis, and which keeps them returning. Home Court Tennis creates space for voices that rarely get space: the migrant, the late returner, the regular who shows up every Saturday without fanfare.
A shared space where no matter our playing level, our language, our background, we all find solace, friendship, joy and belonging on the court. Home Court Tennis is for all of us. Whatever your level. Whatever your language. Whatever brought you back.
We say: you were here, and we see you.
What emerges is a coffee table book: one portrait, one story, one court at a time, woven together showcasing the faces of community tennis in Melbourne.
Every participant in the project signs a simple release form. You can read it here before we meet.
